Pre and Post-Operative Care We Commonly Support

What pre-operative rehabilitation (prehab) involves

Pre-operative rehabilitation, or prehab, prepares your body before surgery to give you the best possible start to recovery. Improving strength, movement and fitness beforehand, and knowing what to expect, often helps people recover more smoothly afterwards. Your practitioner will assess you, set realistic goals and provide a tailored programme in the weeks leading up to your operation.

Post-operative rehabilitation guides your recovery after surgery, helping you safely regain movement, strength and function. The right programme, started at the right time and progressed carefully, can make a real difference to your outcome. Your practitioner works in line with your surgeon’s guidance and adjusts your plan as you heal.

Recovery after a rotator cuff repair is gradual and carefully staged to protect the healing tendon while restoring movement and strength. As this is upper limb surgery, your rehabilitation would be with Minal, our specialist hand and shoulder physiotherapist. She follows your surgeon’s protocol to guide you safely from early protected movement through to full strength and function.

Rehabilitation after a shoulder replacement helps you regain comfortable, functional movement and build the strength to return to daily life. This upper limb care is provided by Minal, whose specialist shoulder background and links with local shoulder surgeons mean your recovery is in experienced hands. She tailors your programme to the type of replacement and your surgeon’s plan.

After surgery to stabilise the shoulder, careful rehabilitation rebuilds control, strength and confidence while protecting the repair. Minal provides this upper limb rehabilitation, guiding you through a staged programme suited to your procedure. She works closely with your surgical team to support a strong and stable recovery.

Hand and wrist surgery often relies on skilled hand therapy afterwards to restore movement, reduce stiffness and rebuild function. Minal, a member of the British Association of Hand Therapists, provides the splinting and graded exercise programmes these procedures require. She works closely with your surgeon to protect the repair and achieve the best result.

After carpal tunnel or other nerve release surgery, gentle rehabilitation helps settle the area, restore movement and rebuild grip and function. As upper limb care, this is provided by Minal, who will guide your recovery with appropriate exercises and advice. She will also monitor your progress and liaise with your surgeon if needed.

Surgery for tendon injuries or Dupuytren’s contracture usually needs careful, structured hand therapy to protect the repair and regain movement and function. Minal provides the specialist splinting and graded rehabilitation these operations require. She works in close partnership with your hand surgeon throughout your recovery.

Recovery after spinal surgery benefits from carefully graded rehabilitation to restore movement, strength and confidence at the right pace. As this is outside the upper limb, your care would be with Rebecca, our registered osteopath. She supports your recovery alongside any guidance from your surgical team, helping you return to normal activity safely.

After disc surgery such as a discectomy, the focus is on settling symptoms, rebuilding strength and movement, and returning to activity with confidence. Rebecca provides this rehabilitation, combining hands-on treatment with a graded exercise plan in line with your surgeon’s advice. She will adjust your programme as your recovery progresses.

Rehabilitation after a hip replacement helps you regain strength, movement and confidence in walking and daily activities. Rebecca can support your recovery alongside the rehabilitation provided by your hospital team, following your surgeon’s precautions and timescales. She tailors your programme to your progress and goals.

Recovery after a knee replacement relies heavily on consistent rehabilitation to restore movement, strength and function. Rebecca can support your recovery with hands-on treatment and a structured exercise plan, working in line with your surgeon’s guidance. She focuses on helping you regain confident, comfortable movement.

After keyhole knee surgery or ligament reconstruction, a graded rehabilitation programme restores movement, strength and stability for a confident return to activity. Rebecca provides this rehabilitation, progressing your plan carefully in line with your surgeon’s protocol. She supports you from early recovery through to returning to the activities you enjoy.

Foot and ankle surgery often needs rehabilitation afterwards to restore movement, strength and balance and to rebuild confidence in walking. Rebecca supports this recovery with hands-on treatment and a tailored exercise plan, following your surgeon’s guidance. She will progress your programme as your foot or ankle heals.

When a fracture has been treated surgically, rehabilitation helps restore movement, strength and function once healing is underway. Depending on the area, your care would be with Minal for the upper limb or Rebecca for everything else. Your practitioner provides structured rehabilitation matched to your injury and stage of recovery.

Getting back to work, driving and everyday tasks is an important part of recovery, and the right guidance helps you do so safely and at the right time. Your practitioner will advise on pacing, activity and any adjustments that help, tailored to your surgery and your role. The aim is a confident, sustainable return to your normal routine.

Returning to sport after an operation is a gradual process, and going back too soon is a common cause of setbacks. Your practitioner, Minal for the upper limb or Rebecca for everything else, will rebuild the strength, movement and confidence your sport demands. They guide a staged return designed to reduce the risk of re-injury.

Good rehabilitation works hand in hand with your surgical care, following the protocols and timescales your surgeon sets. Both Minal and Rebecca are experienced in working alongside surgical teams and will liaise with them where helpful. This joined-up approach gives you the safest and most effective recovery.
